This company recruits on a very mis leading basis. They are advertising for sales delivery drivers earning £40,000 p.a. where a brand new company vehicle will be provided.
They will interview you and send you out 'training' It is not until then that you find out YOU have to lease the van yourself, pay for your own diesel, buy dry ice to keep the product frozen and even buy the product you are going to sell. Your weekly expenses are in the region of £300. Also at the end of your two days training you are told that if you want to take up the position you will have to pay a £300 deposit.
The products are extremely expensive and the selling is extremely aggressive.
This sort of selling should be banned, cold calling is intrusive.
If a man calls introducing himself as a 'Fishman with a difference' tell him to go away, you will only be ripped off.

Thanks for posting this. I went to an interview with these jokers today and, with a healthy scepticism for any kind of commission-based sales jobs, only had my fears confirmed when I asked about the pay - no basic salary, you only start earning once you've sold a huge amount of rubbish, over-priced, re-boxed Findus - and a couple of questions about whether there was any outlay on my behalf and whether staff pay for their diesel themselves. The interviewer was completely elusive and said that he couldn't tell me anything until after i'd completed the 'training'. Not a thing. With that, our reporter made his excuses and left.

Oh, and for the benefit of any future Google searches: scam, con, deception, rip-off, shysters

With regards to the above comments I can assure you that they are purely fabricated.

My name is Stuart Thomson and I have been working with Dining Solutions Direct as a fish man for over 5 years now and I really enjoy it.

I have my own customer base, I visit these customers regularly as well as making new customers on a daily bases – this is done by using a friendly, up beat, enthusiastic approach, not an aggressive one. I am easily earning well over £40,000 and have been each year since I started. I was earn good money and had the freedom of choosing when I worked.

With regards to the van rental this is not true; you do not have to hire a vehicle from Dining Solutions you are able to use your own vehicle. You also do not buy the food from them; you are given the food on a loan stock bases.

You referred to the food as ‘findus’, we use the same suppliers as many high quality restaurants and hotels use, does this mean they are selling ‘findus; too?
Dining Solutions Direct is the market leader in this business, a nationwide company that has been going for 9 years, these child like comments are just being made by competitors trying to put the knife in Dining Solutions Direct to enhance their company.

    http://www.diningsolutionsdirect.com .............................. WHAT A CON!

I had an interview with a guy named Stuart in Okehampton (perhaps the Stuart who wrote the post above) towards the end of last year and I got fed the biggest load of rubbish ever, and I’m not talking about the product that DSD sell, Stuart convinced me to come along for the training days, I booked two days off from my current job for them and went along. As soon as I arrived I realised what sort of company it was..... There was a bunch of blokes gathered in a car park messing about and showing off to each other. Stuart then demonstrated a 'show' in which he explained that there are two types of customers - liars and buyers..... I soon realised that he was the liar, at the end of any sales pitch he uses an old calculator to add up the total costs of anything his customer wants to buy, adds a bit on to the total for his 'back pocket' and if his poor unsuspecting customer (normally the elderly) notices that his total is more than it should be then he blames the calculator. I stuck with my training because I had nothing to loose and I wanted to find out just what the deal was and how you could earn £40k a year as the advert said. It was only towards the end of my training that my questions (that Stuart had been putting off answering) got answered.... I found out about the cons mentioned at the top of this page... the deposit for the van (£300), the hire of the van (£100 per week), the cost of the ice (£6 per block), the cost of buying the food in your van, which is the costs on the DSD website, minus £15 (which is your commission).
The training consisted of riding around in the passenger seat of your 'trainers' van cold calling on people, as the majority of the selling took place in the day time, bungalows were targeted or any kind of dwelling that might have a retired person in it easily manipulated into buying the product. The 'fish man' will then knock on the door and say "fish man with a difference, come and have a look" and beckon them out to the van, and will persist until they come to have a look (it certainly doesn't surprise me to read that an elderly couple in Somerset are taking Dining Solutions Direct to court for harassment after one of their drivers wouldn't take no for an answer). He then presents the show in a fierce and manipulative way, he gives the appearance of knowing what he's talking about, but all the information he needs is on the label on the front of the box that he is trying to sell, there is certainly no skill or product knowledge involved in the sale of their overpriced products... see this link for example; http://www.diningsolutionsdirect.com/Doeuvres.asp
I hope that this post will put off anyone going for any kind of interview or wasting any time with them like I did, I also hope that anyone ever considering buying from them will slam the door in the 'fish mans' face.
